Even though your loyalty to a product is what ultimately drives you back to it, I would be willing to bet that the design of that product drew you in first. Think about it, how often have you been in the store looking for a new drink to try and you pick the one that looks like the best one, right?

This is why packaging design is so important to any new product that launches. First impressions count, especially when it comes to physical products. People are judgmental whether they want to be or not. Even if you have the greatest product out there in your market, you can lose to your competitor who spent a little more time and thought into what their product is housed in.

We want you to stand out from the crowd so we have laid out 10 great packaging design trends that will meet the demands of your awesome product. We don’t even know what your making but if you make it look good, it will sell.

1. Going Minimalist

The whole minimalism thing has taken the world by storm in the past couple of years and it has made its way into packaging designs. The idea behind minimalism is “less is more” and these companies take that and run with it. The goal is to draw attention to the product inside.

2. Using Warm and Moody Colors

Some companies have such vibrant products, that they need to have an equally vibrant package design. This type of design is great for those who have a more cheerful and bold company. This packaging design trend allows you to stand out from the crowd. When you popping design, it will make customers stop in their tracks.

3. Vintage & Retro

It seems everywhere you look now from TV to fashion, you are hit with nostalgia. Nostalgia is huge right now partly due to how well it sells.

Going vintage with your packaging design is great if you want to give off an older feel. Everybody, young and old, are interested in vintage design.

The older generations are reminded of their past and the younger folks are interested in how things were before the digital age. When using vintage design, just make sure you are putting a modern twist on it in some way.

4. Being Fun and Playful

This is our personal favorite out of all the packaging design trends. We love when companies are able to showcase how fun they are just by their packaging. Being fun and playful with your packaging can have huge payoffs for the companies that do it but it is not for everybody. Typically, we recommend accompanying them with an equally as fun product.

5. Transparency

Having a window into your product can be a great way to showcase your product and have effective packaging at the same time. There are two routes you can go with this package design. First would be just to show off the product and all the necessary information. Second, would be to combine having fun with the packaging design incorporating the window into the actual design.

6. Story Telling

One of the biggest marketing and brand trends of the past couple of years has been to use story-telling.

A lot of companies are drawing people into their brand by creating stories and one of the best ways to draw people in is with a package that tells a concise story.

You only have so much room on package design, so telling a story on there can be super beneficial.

Almost any social entrepreneur will make their package design reflect what they believe in.
